So what’s next for this solo traveler? New Zealand, Australia, and China, then back to DC…with several stops along the way!

As I sit here anxiously awaiting for October 29th (the day I leave for Auckland), I figured I’d write about the trip I have planned, the stops on the itinerary, activities that I will/may take part of, and more. It’s a three week trip with plenty of stops, so I may just break this up into several posts, as opposed to one long post. This gives me an opportunity to keep writing, and not just sit here waiting for the trip to begin for me to write again.

Finally get to see the Sydney Opera House

So, how did this trip come about? The simple answer is: Australia!! While there are certainly more destinations on this trip, Australia is what started me on my next journey; much like the way Munich started my last journey in 2013. Why Australia? Quite simply, it’s been my #1 dream destination for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by wildlife; and, no place on Earth has more of the wildlife that I’ve always wanted to see than Australia. I’m talking kangaroos, koalas, tasmanian devils, crocodiles (Yes, crocodiles are also found elsewhere. Let me have this one), and so much more. The wildlife is still just one aspect. The landscape, the history, the sights, driving on the other side of the road (really looking forward to this one), these are just some of the things I look forward to. Of course, I can talk about this better once I’m actually there.

It all starts here!

Still, the trip does not begin there. Auckland, New Zealand is the first destination on the itinerary. Why Auckland? Well, quite frankly, it was because of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. I couldn’t go to that part of the world and not visit Hobbiton. After New Zealand comes Australia. Check out the list of destinations for this part of the trip: Hobart, Melbourne, Cairns, Sydney, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, and Perth. I know right!! FYI, Hobart is in Tasmania, in case anyone was wondering. After Australia, I’ll be heading to Beijing. However, and this is really awesome, I have a 12 hour layover in Hong Kong on my way there. So cool!!! Two days in Beijing, and then back to DC…..with a 23 hour layover in Seoul, South Korea!!!!! Holy crap, that is awesome! Well, I’ll leave this here for now. Sorry if the post got long. In the next coming days and/or weeks, I’ll go into a little more detail as to what I have planned. Adios

Planning a trip is always so exciting! Sounds like you have an incredible journey coming up soon. I've never been to Australia before, but it's definitely been on my never ending travel bucket list as well. Enjoy your layover in Seoul! I recommend the Myeongdong or Hongdae district if you get a chance πŸ™‚

  • Oh, absolutely!! The planning itself is almost as exciting as the trip itself…almost. πŸ™‚ The traffic that Expedia receives from me alone is probably raising its stock prices. I honestly cannot express the excitement that I feel for this upcoming trip. That said, I certainly hope you get the chance to visit Australia as well. I'm sure it's amazing. Thank you very much for your comment, and your recommendation for Seoul. πŸ™‚

PS. Your blog is awesome! I shall certainly follow and look forward to reading it!
