Honestly, I added a 2 day stop in Perth, flying from the east coast of Australia to the west, just so I could see the quokkas, and hopefully get a picture with one. Look up “quokka selfie”, and you will see why people want to see these animals. So, I’ve booked a full day tour of Rottnest Island, which is where these animals are primarily found. They may also be found at some zoos around Australia. FYI, the quokka is listed as vulnerable because of declining populations. Therefore, visitors should know that they are not allowed to touch or feed them. Visitors are also sure as hell not allowed to take one. Attempting this can result in a fine, at least.
Nevertheless, I’m hoping that you have looked up “quokka selfie” by now. These animals have no reasons to fear humans, so it’s very possible to get close enough to snap a picture of/with one. And that, my friends, is what I intend to do. I’ll be spending the entire day at Rottnest Island, and the primary mission is to get a selfie with, at least, one of these adorable little critters. Definitely going to be putting my GoPro to work that day.
Well, aside from that, I don’t actually have any other plans for my two days in Perth. Who’s been there? Where should I go? What should I do? Whale watching tour perhaps? Or should I just explore as much as I can of Perth. These will be my last two days in Australia before I depart for Beijing, China. I’ll leave that for another post. Later! 🙂
