Hong Kong, Beijing, and Seoul!!

So, I’m finally gonna get to see The Great Wall of China!! Talk about a “must see” for me. This is one of those things I would think about quite often. I mean, aside from just seeing the wall, just the idea of finally heading to China is also a dream come true. I watch a lot of travel documentaries, and China has long been a destination on my list of places to see. So, needless to say, I’m excited!!

But first, a long layover. I love long layovers. My first long layover was back in 2013. I had a 7.5 hour layover in Copenhagen, Denmark on my way to Munich Germany. The first layover heading to Beijing is a 13.5 hour overnight layover in Hong Kong. I would have preferred a longer stay, but it was not in the cards. Still, 13.5 hours should still give me enough time to explore this amazing city. Let’s see what trouble I can get into on this short stay.

Then, finally, I arrive in Beijing. 2 days. One at the DoubleTree by Hilton, one at the Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street. The freaking Ritz Carlton people!!! I couldn’t afford this hotel…probably ever. Thank goodness for Marriott Rewards!!! Just wait for the pictures. Gonna take so many. 🙂 Click on the hotel names to see their websites.

So, what to do? Well, if it hasn’t been made abundantly clear, The Great Wall. Yeah, I know, I mentioned it already. The Great Wall will be part of a tour, which beings with hotel pick up in the morning. What else? I’m also thinking Forbidden City. I’ve heard a lot about the local markets as well, and how shopping at them is something to be experienced. Another thing I’m really looking forward to (for some reason) is trying the local cuisine. From what I’ve seen, TV and Internet, I can try scorpions, grasshoppers, seahorses, and more. I’ve even heard they serve donkey meat in Beijing. Think I found a place that serves donkey burgers. Ooohhhhh, and duck too! Hope I have enough time.

Last, and unfortunately least, comes the last stop on what I’m hoping will be an incredible vacation. This will be the longest layover I’ve ever had. I’ve got a 23 hour layover in Seoul, South Korea. Well, maybe I’ll find some weird food here as well. Thinking of going to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the border between North and South Korea.
